How to easily find the perfect pair of glasses, sunglasses online using virtual try-on

Eyewear can be so much more than just a pair of vision-correcting lenses sitting on your face.
Are you looking for glasses that double as a statement piece, with bold colors and unique shapes? You can easily find those. What about frames that double as Bluetooth speakers or can livestream your day to Facebook? Yeah, those are a thing. You can also buy glasses without a prescription lens, entirely for fashion purposes. And, if none of those fit your vibe, don't worry, you can still find understated and nearly invisible styles, too.
There are so many options for people young and old, but if you’re like me, shopping for glasses isn’t at the top of your to-do list. However, thanks to modern technology, you can do it anywhere with an internet connection.

Virtually try on glasses
Many of the places that sell eyewear also offer the option to try glasses on from the comfort of your home.
Virtual try-ons use the camera on your smartphone, computer, or tablet to virtually superimpose the frames on your face, letting you see how they look. You can also try on different color options or frame styles with a few simple clicks or taps.
To virtually try on glasses:
- Find the eyeglasses or sunglasses on your website of choice.
- Click on the frames.
- Look for a button that says something like “try them on” or “try on virtually.”
- Grant the website permission to access your device’s camera.
- See how they look!
This might not be available for every pair of glasses offered on a website.
So, you've virtually tried them on but you're still a little unsure? That's ok! It’s one thing to see a pair of frames on your face, but it’s another to make sure they fit on your face.
If you prefer a physical try-on or want to be extra sure before spending your hard-earned money, visit a store nearby to try on frames in person, or check out websites like Warby Parker where you can pick a handful of frames to try on at home.
I’ve ordered glasses using both methods, but I still had the problem of the glasses sliding down my nose. If you also deal with this, here are two solutions I found:
- Buy a silicone gripper to put on the arm to provide a better grip. You can easily find these cheaply online.
or
- Visit a store near you and ask if they can adjust the arms. They were able to adjust my frames in minutes – and free of charge — even though I didn’t buy my glasses from them.
